A breakthrough in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease?

Canadian scientists are confident that we have achieved great success in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease, as the own know-how stimulation of the natural defense mechanisms of the body against the formation of beta-amyloid plaques, which form clusters on the surface of neurons.

Microglial cells, can not by themselves eliminate any excess of this protein. They determined that the molecule monophosphoryl lipid moderately stimulates microglial cells that are beginning to better purify neurons from excess beta-amyloid.

The use of this know-how has given them good results. Weekly injections of monophosphoryl lipid molecules into mice with symptoms similar to Alzheimer's disease, to quickly eliminate up to 80% of amyloid plaques! In addition, in the same period, the mice were observed general improvement in cognitive functions, particularly marked increase in the ability to learn new tasks.

Scientists believe that their discovery will help to develop a vaccine for people who have a predisposition to Alzheimer's disease.
